If you’ve been following my blog for a year, you’ll know that we’ve faced the challenge of redecorating the entire Chambery house. This needed to be done partly because it hadn’t been decorated in 16 years and partly because I had to find a way to make the house feel more like a home. The old decor wasn’t really my taste and it reflected a past history which I hadn’t been a part of.  However, I also didn’t want to make it an ‘American house’ and wanted to keep the French flavor. The biggest challenge was we had to do it on an ‘Ikea budget’ and do the labor ourselves. So we settled on taking down wallpaper and replacing it mostly with paint (and some wallpaper), some new assemble yourself furniture, some framed pictures and photos (I brought the frames from the US), some new rugs (and one I brought from the US in my shipped boxes), and some new hanging light fixtures. We’re not really sure if we struck the balance between French and American decorating, but we did find decor that we both liked and so do the kids.  I’m happy to report that we are now finished! It took two years to do but now it’s done and we’re glad because it was a lot of work. Here are some before and after photos of the rooms we redecorated.

Yes, indeed, Fifi, those are your lovely Fifi Flowers paintings above our bed. I had them shipped to Florida and picked them up there, along with the frames, on a trip to see my family. Thanks. They make our bedroom! You do beautiful work. Cynthia
