In May we took a week-long trip to see the Languedoc-Rousillon region, which is located along the sea coast just west of Marseilles. I had never been to the area. It does not have the same charm as the Cote d’Azur or Brittany but it does have some lovely areas, beautiful beaches, interesting historic towns, great weather and I especially liked the people.  They were warm, friendly, and open. I saw people regularly talk to strangers at train stations, on trains, along the walkways, and at restaurants. I heard a lot of laughter and everyone seemed very good-natured.  I never see this behavior in Chambery and nearby towns. People keep to themselves in the Alps region, so it was very refreshing to feel so welcomed.  The only negative to the area is that it is subjected to high winds coming down from the mountains, making walking difficult and they keep your eyes irritated.

The next few videos will be about the Languedoc-Rousillon area. This video shows the beautiful mosaic floors of a recently discovered Roman villa dating back to the 400′s AD.  It’s located in a town called Loupian which is near Sete, a coastal city.  I was surprised to find such well-preserved floors dating back 1,500 years. The villa was discovered by a farmer ploughing his land. When he was ploughing through the dirt he kept seeing specks of color in the earth which turned out to be peices of the villa’s multicolored mosaic floors. Unfortunately, the plough damaged large sections of the floors.
