It’s no secret that the Pub is central to the Irish life and sense of community. It’s where everyone meets up at night and on weekends to enjoy each others’ company, have a beer or two (or three or four), start up conversation, meet old friends, sing as the spirit moves, and just forget your troubles for an evening. We did just that at a Pub in Dingle. We originally went to do some videotaping and photography of our Sheep Farm owner who was playing blues harmonica with her partner that night and wanted to have some photos for their website. We exchanged our services for a print of one of her original paintings of a boat on the bay, which had an eery resemblance to Van Gogh’s painting technique. I couldn’t resist and I’m so glad we went.
The Pub was tiny – no more than 40 people could fit inside. It was also ancient and very authentic. We thought we were going to do the photography gig, listen to a little music and then head home. But someone in the pub started playing harmonica and singing old Irish songs, whereas everyone joined in. It was lovely and kept us there for several hours.
