Sarlat is one of the best-preserved Medieval towns in France, with both beautiful Medieval and Renaissance facades. It’s a great shopping city and the streets are filled with artists and musicians. The Perigord Noir region’s buildings all have a gold tint from the yellow stone of the area. For more information on the city:  http://www.ot-sarlat-perigord.fr/ http://www.sarlat.com/eindex.html

St. Emilion, near Bordeaux, is mostly known for its excellent wines. The city however sits on virtually a honeycomb of passageways, catacombs as well as an early Christian Church. Check with the tourist offices and reserve a tour of this underground world.  http://www.saint-emilion-tourisme.com/index.php?lang=uk

Dordogne was such a beautiful region, I thought you would like to see more photos from the area:

We visited numerous villages while staying in Dordogne but these were two of my favorites. The buildings date back mostly to Medieval times. Villefranche has a nice market and Najec has a great old castle that you can hike to and wander through.

My Frenchman’s son, my stepson, received a bungee jump as a birthday gift. A couple of weeks ago, he did the jump. Here’s a 37 second video of that jump that his friends took. This is one brave kid. He’s fearless, high energy and has a zest for life. You gotta love him.

Do you mind if I toot my own horn for a moment? I received a very nice email this week from Trip Films. I’ve been nominated by TripFilms.com for their month of August ‘Best Film Maker Award.’ There are about eight of us in the running. If you don’t mind taking two minutes and voting for me, it would be appreciated. You just go to TripFilms.com, go to the right column where it says Travel Blog, and hit the link saying Vote. My user name is Cinziaclc.  Then the link saying “Vote for Your Favorites Here.’  Link:  http://www.tripfilms.com/polls.sdo?pollID=6

The voting ends August 21st and there could be a free trip in it for me!  You have to sign up on the site which just entails your user name and email. If you prefer not to vote, then just send good vibes my way. Thanks!

Bordeaux is a lovely city to visit with beautiful architecture and mild weather. The Atlantic Coast, not far from Bordeaux, has all the expected beach activities including gorgeous sunsets. We “camped” which actually was renting a comfortable mobile home walking distance to the beach. We also visited a lake for swimming and boating, and the Arcachon Bay which included a boat sightseeing tour to look at the Pilat Dune from a distance and the multi-million dollar homes that sit on the Bay.

Dordogne is mainly known for its cave paintings dating back 16,000 years but there is much more to see and do than just the caves. The region has a dozen or so astonishing deep caverns with underwater rivers, gorgeous rock formations, and one grotto even has a high tech light show to highlight its features. There are castles on almost every river bend, and plenty of river canoeing and other water sports. Dordogne is also filled with charming and lovely medieval towns worth strolling through. Lastly, if you like wine, the city and region of Bordeaux is near Dordogne in the neighboring region of La Gironde. The Atlantic Coast and all that it has to offer is a stone throw away from Bordeaux. You need months to really see everything Dordogne and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Sorry I couldn’t show you the cave paintings or caverns but it is forbidden to use a camera or video camera inside any of the caves or grottos. However you can ‘visit’ the Lascaux Cave (the most famous of the caves) online at:
